Flare
Be seen.
Flare is a personal safety app that alerts the people you choose when you need help. It's getting ready for its public launch.
What Flare does
Flare lets you quietly alert the people you trust, share your location only when you choose to, and set check-ins so they know where to start looking if you don't answer.
I Feel Unsafe and SOS
One tap tells your Check-in Circle you feel unsafe. Hold for three seconds to send an SOS to your emergency contacts, with your live location.
Plans and check-ins
Tell Flare where you're going and when you'll check in. If you miss it, your contacts are told where to start looking.
Follow Me
Share your live location with people you choose for a set time, and stop whenever you like.
Escape Plan
Ask a trusted contact for a call or text that gives you a reason to leave a situation.
Flare Companion is a free app for the people you've chosen: it brings your alerts to them, and lets them tell you they're on it.
How Flare uses text messages
Flare sends text messages (SMS) only to people who have asked for them:
People using Flare
Get a one-time code to sign in, confirm a new number, or delete their account. A code is sent only when you enter your own number in the app and ask for one.
Contacts
A contact gets one invitation text when a Flare user adds them. They get no alerts unless they accept that invitation, and they can remove themselves at any time. After accepting, they're texted when that person sends an SOS, marks themselves unsafe, misses a check-in, or starts sharing their live location, and again when an alert ends.
Escape contacts
May get a message a Flare user wrote themselves, asking for a call or text to help them leave a situation. They get these only after accepting an invitation in the app.
What the texts look like
- Sign-in codeYour Flare verification code is 123456. It expires in 10 minutes.
- Invitation to a contactAlex invited you to their SOS contacts on Flare. You won't get any of their alerts unless you accept. Install Flare and sign in with this number to accept or decline.
- Alert to an accepted contactAlex marked themselves unsafe. Location: https://maps.google.com/?q=51.0447,-114.0719
- When an alert endsAlex says they're OK now — their alert is resolved.
How often you get texts depends on how often codes are requested or alerts are sent; there's no marketing and no regular schedule. Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to any Flare text to stop receiving them, or HELP for help. After STOP, contacts who have the app still get alerts as app notifications; to stop those too, remove yourself as a contact in the app. We never sell or share phone numbers for marketing. See our privacy policy and terms.
